All in all, I have to say it was a very strong start for the Dems. They hit the issue of 9/11 and terrorism dead on, suggesting that Kerry would lead this nation through troubled times with more strength and wisdom than Bush. One year ago, everyone considered this to be Republicans trump card, but here they were, putting the issue front and center for the public to consider. Gore and Carter spent the first hour+ foucsing on little else, in fact. Eqaully interesting, they did so without invoking the President by name much, if at all. The charges were leveled at the choices, not the man, keeping the tone substantive and not shrill. Very well done. From there, they moved on to a powerful commemoration of 9/11, one that honestly seemed like something you'd find at the GOP convention. They've taken ownership of the issue in a way I can't imagine the Republicans expected. And last but not least, the Clintons. I've posted considerably on this one already, but in summary, his moment was simply masterrful. If they can keep this up, it's going to be Kerry's election to lose.
Day two, coming soon....
