| I will say... that... unless George W Bush and his Republican team really start crafting a stronger message and giving a vision of where they want to take the country in the next 4 years, um... we may have seen the acceptance speech of the next President tonight. I think John Kerry gave a very strong speech that may appeal to a lot of swing voters that had certain doubts. Now I'm not saying by any means that this race is over, but... this is a very disciplined Democratic operation that we've seen over the last four days, and in fact over the last few weeks, and George W Bush and Dick Cheney are going to work very, very hard over the next couple of months. |
Shocked, Brown asked for specifics on what he thought Kerry did that would be so appealing to swing voters. And George explained something I had been thinking a lot about over the past few days....

Well, he on a number of levels actually I think tried to get to the right of George W Bush. Something John Edwards mentioned yesterday, the issue of nuclear non-proliferation, which we haven't heard really much about. It was in Edwards speech and it was in Kerry's speech. It's almost the 21st century version of the 1960's "missile gap" from 1960, except there really are problems with nuclear proliferation. That's one example.
The idea of certainly strengthening the military. The idea of promising to cut middle class taxes... I think some of those notes are going to resonate with the general public. |
This may be the first time I've ever said this about something George has said, but I cannot agree with him more.
