He Did The Math

Michael Kinsley has a fascinating op-ed in today's Post that runs the numbers on the economic results of Republican vs. Democratic administrations over the past 40+ years. And the results, no matter how you slice them (and he slices them several ways), are quite surprising.

If you had asked me before reading this whether the results would have favored Dems or the GOP, I would have said the GOP. Even knowing what happened under Clinton's watch in the 1990's. After all, I grew up hearing that the GOP was a better steward of the economy, and some of my earliest memories come from the economic disaster that took place on Carter's watch.

But no. By virtually every measure, the Dems favor better than the GOP. And this is true even if you credit the first year of each administration to the previous office holder.

I don't know about you but I'm surprised. The real question, i suppose, is if this knowledge will ever trickle down to the electorate.
