Washington Post / ABC News Poll Data

Washington Post / ABC News have just released the results of poll taken from July 30 to August 1. You can read their analysis for yourselves. Here are a few raw stats I found interesting:
* 41% of registered voters say they are following this election "very closely" , as compared to 29% at roughly the same time in 2000. * 85% of registered voters said they were "absolutely certain" they would vote. This compares to 79% at roughly the same point in 2000. * Kerry has the largest lead he's ever shown among registered voters in their polling of registered voters (6 points), while Ralph Nader is getting his smallest result (2%). * Kerry's level of support now matches Bush's in the "Do you support Bush/Kerry strongly or not strongly?". The convention provided a huge boost to Kerry here. * Among people leaning towards Kerry (but who do not consider themselves supporters), their reasons are split nearly 50/50 between being pro-Kerry and anti-Bush. Bush's "leaners" are, on the other hand, 82% pro-Bush and 16% anti-Kerry. * Kerry leads 52/44 in the "Who do you think is better qualified to be commander in chief of the U.S. military, (Kerry) or (Bush)" question. This is not a question incumbents usually trail in, for obvious reasons. * Kerry has cut Bush's lead on the "stronger leader" question by more than half, and trails now only by 6 points.

Sorry... Couldn't avoid getting into the horse race there for a minute. What does it mean? no matter what anyone might say, not much.. yet.

If you ask me, barring a major news event between now and the election, this thing is going to be won or lost during the debates.
