We Know Where We've Been. Where Are We Going?

We've just completed 3 of 4 days at the Republican convention, and here's what I know. The last four years have been hard. Very hard. The world has become a scary place full of evil men with evil intentions. Bush has been a strong and decisive leader in our time of great need.

One question. Aren't elections supposed to be about the future and not the past?

Iraq is a mess. So is Afghanistan. The economy is sputtering along. Poverty is on the rise, as are the ranks of the uninsured. Osama is still on the loose. al Qaeda is regrouping.

What do the Republicans plan to do about that? So far, it seems like they have no idea.

Perhaps tomorrow Bush will address that. Given how future oriented the Kerry campaign has been so far, he better. One classic rule of American politics, and one of the reasons that Republicans have been so successful since the 1980's, is that the candidate of optimism almost always wins. So far, the GOP has given America nothing to be optimistic about.
