I'm not going to write much now. If I do I'll probably just regret what I have to say. But I will say this. I don't understand. I don't understand half the people in this nation. At all. I don't understand how they could vote to bring back an administration that has failed so badly in everything it tried to do. Terror. Iraq. Taxes. The budget deficit.
And not just failed, but lied. Lied about Iraq. Lied about al Qaeda. Lied about Medicare. Lied about just about everything its ever done.
Values? They vote on values and bring back an administration who will do anything, ANYTHING to win? That's values?
Not in my America.
But obviously this isn't my America. Obviously this is an America where we will choose to single out one group for discrimination simply because we don't like the way they live. An America where winning is more important than being right. An America where being strong is more important than being smart.
I just don't understand.
What now?
I don't know. Perhaps, just perhaps, Bush will finally try to be a uniter, will work from the center. But I doubt it. We'll see...
For now, I need to do some thinking. So don't expect much out of me here for a few days.
I do know this. This nation needs a viable left, just like it needs a viable right. And although some will see this as a complete repudiation of the left, I do not. We came close, very close. This nation is scared, and the effects of that cannot be underestimated. With a candidate that was capable of inspiring, uplifting, a bringing people together, I still believe that my prediction of a landslide could have been a reality. But... But...
I just don't understand. And it kills me.
But don't worry.
We'll be back.
We'll be back.
