OK... I know I'm a week late on this, but it is an ongoing story, so bear with me...

The race for Mayor of San Diego appears to be stuck in the courts. And no one has any idea what the outcome will be.

Get this...

A few weeks before the election the city was rocked by a pension scandal that may force it into bankruptcy. Although she wasn't on the ballot, and despite the fact that a Dem hasn't won in decades, City Councilwoman Frye stepped up just 5 weeks before the election and mounted a write-in campaign.

After hundreds of thousand of votes were cast and counted, she came within 2,200 votes of winning. Or rather, she won by 2,200 votes, but a court disallowed 4,000 of the votes because... although voters wrote in her name, they failed to fill in the bubble next to the write in line on their absentee optical scan ballot! Despite the fact that the voters intent could not possibly have been any clearer had they been standing in front of the court themselves, and despite the fact that the instructions were far from clear,the judge disallowed and handed the election to her opponent.

Now, as if that weren't absurd enough, now the 3rd place finished has filed a lawuit asking that a runoff be held between him and the court declared winner! Under what grounds? He says that the city charter only allows for 2 candidates, and that even though she was a write-in, she shouldn't have been allowed to run. Whatever that means.

And you thought the elections in Ukraine were bad.
