MOUNTING COSTS

Two facts out of Iraq today:

* The Pentagon is reporting today that total number of troops wounded in Iraq has crossed the 10,000 mark, with over half of those soldiers unable to return to duty. Fatalities currently stand at 1,335

* It looks like Bush is planning to request an additional $100 billion to fund military operations in Iraq. This is on top of the $130 billion already spent. Remember that their initial projections were that the entire expedition would cost somewhere around $50 billion, and that reconstruction would fund itself.

All for a war that had NOTHING to do with 9/11 or the war on terror. Brilliant.

UPDATE: Apparently that first stat is worse than it looks. Since April of 2004, the rate at which American soldiers have been wounded has more than tripled.
