From the White House biography of James Madison:
| In Congress, he helped frame the Bill of Rights and enact the first revenue legislation. Out of his leadership in opposition to Hamilton's financial proposals, which he felt would unduly bestow wealth and power upon northern financiers, came the development of the Republican, or Jeffersonian, Party. |
And Thomas Jefferson
| Sharp political conflict developed, and two separate parties, the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, began to form. Jefferson gradually assumed leadership of the Republicans, who sympathized with the revolutionary cause in France. Attacking Federalist policies, he opposed a strong centralized Government and championed the rights of states. |
In both cases they have rewritten history. Both were members of the Democratic-Republican party. The Republican party didn't exist until Lincoln's day. Jefferson did NOT lead the "Republicans." He led the "Democratic-Republicans," the forefather of today's Democratic Party.
This is so disgusting I'm not even sure what to say. They are attempting to quite literally rewrite our history. And they're using our money, our government, our White House to do it.
Write your Senators. Write your Congressman. Write the White House. This cannot stand.
