Eisenhower is one of those Presidents that I never knew much about before last year. My initial research made me a fan pretty quickly. And the more I learn, the more I like. I never would've guessed the guy could predict the future 50 years out though. A Texas oil millionaire trying to kill off Social Security, eliminate labor laws, and smash unemployment insurance? Wow. Talk about dead on.
It's too bad modern conservatism killed off Ike's wing of the Republican Party. But boy does it leave an enormous void in the American political landscape. Forget this stupid "move left" or "move right" debate. The political spectrum isn't two dimensional. And yes, you got it... Western Dems understand that better than anyone. When that realignment comes, it will come from the West!
