From RawStory
| Three tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush’s visit to New Orleans, officials said, |
Its the latest in a long, long string of stories showing that Bush cares more about his political future than the lives of the Americans he's been elected to serve and protect. I don't care what he excuse is. So what if the president is in the area. What - do they seriously think that terrorists are going to hijack a plane loaded with relief supplies and crash it into his press conference? Seriously, what is the logic here?
From the mouth of the man-child himself
| Pelosi, speaking at a news conference, said Brown had "absolutely no credentials" when Bush picked him to run FEMA.
She related that she urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Brown. "He said, 'Why would I do that?'" Pelosi said. "I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?'" "Oblivious, in denial, dangerous," she added. |
Andrew Sullivan is right. Apparently the bubble around Bush is so airtight its impossible for the truth to get in at all. And yes Andrew, that would largely explain Iraq. What it doesn't explain, however, is why it took you so long to see this.
Third, apparently the US government has decided that the First Amendment is no longer operative in New Orleans:
| The U.S. government agency leading the rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina said on Tuesday it does not want the news media to take photographs of the dead as they are recovered from the flooded New Orleans area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, heavily criticized for its slow response to the devastation caused by the hurricane, rejected requests from journalists to accompany rescue boats as they went out to search for storm victims. |
If the press cares at all about their role in American society in the 21st century, they'll either ignore this decision or go to court to get it immediately overturned. "No law" means "no law." Even a die hard conservative originalist would see this one for what it is - illegal government censorship.
God dammit - this country is ours, not theirs. This is our story, our lives. That's the whole point of that damn amendment. What is wrong with these people? What is wrong with this country?
