It appears the Weekly Standard has come out with a strong call from the right to end torture. And along the way, they deliver the best one line explanation I've seen for why, moral issues aside, allowing even the appearance of torture to occur is just insane:

I just don't understand why this is so hard for some people to understand. Don't like the moral reasons to ban torture? Fine. How about the national security ones? This policy is putting both American soldiers and citizens at risk. How can that possibly make sense to anyone?
