| AUSTIN, Texas - A Texas grand jury on Monday re-indicted Rep. Tom DeLay on charges of conspiring to launder money and money laundering after the former majority leader attacked last week's indictment on technical grounds.
The new indictment, handed up by a grand jury seated Monday, contains two counts: conspiring to launder money and money laundering. The latter charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison. Last week, DeLay was charged with conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws./td> |
Talk about turning up the heat. This one comes with the potential of life in prison! And don't forget, the Abramoff investigation is still out there, and according to Time Magazine its getting closer to Tom every day. Considering that Abramoff's operation was all about the shakedown and the laundering, well... today's indictment sure does have a nice ring!
UPDATE: For the record, it looks like the DeLay's claims that this indictment is a "do over" are totally false. These charges are in addition to the ones filed last week.
