| A new poll of likely voters by Zogby International has found that a majority of Americans support Congress considering the impeachment of President Bush if he “did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq,” RAW STORY has learned.
The poll, to be released this afternoon, finds that 51 percent of likely voters want Congress to eye impeachment, while 45 percent do not. It was commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org, a coalition of progressive groups seeking a Congressional investigation of the events leading up to war in Iraq. |
After the way Zogby botched his polling in 2004, I'm not going to put much stock in this. I'm particularly curious to see the actual question set, as well as their order. From the way this article sounds they're quite broad, which makes interpreting the findings much more difficult.
Either way, what I do think is important is that we're talking about this at all. RawStory has covered the poll, but that's to be expected. Will any of the mainstream players pick it up?
From the right, I can guarantee you that we'll be hearing quite a bit about the group that funded the poll. But let's be honest here - that's a red herring. If Zogby releases the questions he used, the question of who provided the funding is moot. If the questions aren't biased, and if standard polling techniques were used, the motives of the people providing the funds are irrelevant. No doubt Fox will ignore that, but as we know, just because you see something on TV doesn't mean its true.
I'll see if I can dig up the questions later on today.
