| Victory in Iraq is Defined in Stages
* Short term, Iraq is making steady progress in fighting terrorists, meeting political milestones, building democratic institutions, and standing up security forces. * Medium term, Iraq is in the lead defeating terrorists and providing its own security, with a fully constitutional government in place, and on its way to achieving its economic potential. * Longer term, Iraq is peaceful, united, stable, and secure, well integrated into the international community, and a full partner in the global war on terrorism. |
Iraq is "in the lead" defeating terrorists? What, is this a race? And "providing its own security?" Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a monopoly on use of force a prerequisite of sovereignty? So how can that be a medium term goal? And what the hell is "medium term" anyway? Talk about nonsensical....
And check out these brilliant section headings:
| Victory in Iraq is a Vital U.S. Interest Failure is Not an Option The Enemy Is Diffuse and Sophisticated Our Strategy for Victory is Clear |
I love that last one in particular. The point - the ENTIRE POINT - of the document is that it is the "strategy for victory." That's the document's name! So how can it be a subheading? And more importantly, if it is "clear" then you don't need to tell me that. I should be able to figure that out on my own by reading the damn document!
Here's the first line of the "Victory Will Take Time" section:
Our strategy is working.
This was supposed to be a strategy document, not feel good propaganda. Do these people have a clue how to do anything other than campaign? Do they? This isn't what governing sounds like.
Here's another great one:
| With resolve, victory will be achieved, although not by a date certain. No war has ever been won on a timetable and neither will this one. |
That last sentence makes no sense grammatically. Its just embarrassingly bad. And more to the point, its also just plain stupid. And for the record - and this will be my last comment since you can no doubt wade thru this pathetic excuse for a national security document on your own - if I remember correctly, weren't they promising us way back when that this war would be short, that we'd be greeted as liberators, and that the troops would be back right quick? Right.....
Oh, and one last thing.... Calling our enemies "Saddamists"? Did they really not think that one through? I mean that's straight-up Daily Show material! Lord help us...
