SULLY GETS POSTMODERN ON US!

Now this I just don't understand. After approvingly quoting 3 full paragraphs from Reaganite Bruce Bartlett that describe Bush as a small-minded, self-centered, egotistical prig, Andrew Sullivan considers why so many are nonetheless loyal to him, concluding:
Part of this may be due to the fact that Bush is personally a nice guy.

Go read what Bartlett has to say. Then read what Sullivan has to say. And then explain to me how the human being they describe could possibly be described by anyone as a "nice guy." The idea of separating professional behavior and personal character sounds good in theory, but its a bit too postmodern for me to stomach. We are what we do, not what we say, and no amount of face to face niceties can make up for a persistent pattern of selfish behavior that takes hold the minute anyone's back is turned. If anything, it makes the supposed friendliness that much worse. "Do unto others" and all that, right?

Funny, that. Sullivan is the conservative, I'm the liberal, and yet I'm the one defending the "golden rule." Just goes to show you how tired the whole liberal/conservative thing really is.
