Cliff May over at NRO has taken up the latest defense of Rummy and Bush. Here's the short version: Sure, we made mistakes... But everyone else makes them too! Even shorter version: We're just like Clinton!

Here's an example:

Rumsfeld is hardly alone in having made mistakes. For more than a quarter century, almost all Western leaders and “experts” blundered badly by underestimating the enemy we now face: his determination, his ruthlessness and, yes, his competence. Worse than that: Many have been slow to recognize that Militant Islamism is the enemy, as serious a threat as were Nazism and Communism in their day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but prior to the war, weren't they trumpeting far and wide how they were going to make up for all of the horrible mistakes Clinton made prior to their arrival? When you use the mistakes of those who've come before you as justification for your actions, you cannot then fall back on those very same mistakes for support when you fail.
