ONE OF THOSE MYSTERIES?

I missed this over at CNN yesterday...
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Porter Goss said Saturday that his surprise resignation as CIA director is "just one of those mysteries," offering no other explanation for his sudden departure after almost two years on the job.

Although the ex-congressman declined to comment, intelligence sources have told CNN that Goss' resignation on Friday was triggered by differences with National Intelligence Director John Negroponte over plans to move staff, including analysts from the CIA's counterterrorism center, to other intelligence agencies.

I really don't understand why people in the media let public figures get away with saying such stupid things without any additional comment or explanation. "Just one of those mysteries?" He doesn't know why he left, but he did it anyway?

Shouldn't the Director of the CIA have a better excuse than that in "a time of war?"

And while we're on the subject of stupid statements, check out this one today from Bush:

BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound (3.402 kilos) perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.

After 5+ years in office, shouldn't he have a best moment that would involve something he couldn't have done as a private citizen? What does catching a fish have to do with his time in office?
