Former US Rep Duke Cunningham is already sitting in jail for his part in a massive defense contractor bribing scheme, one with direct links to Goss' handpicked #3 man inside the CIA, all of whom were involved in poker/prostitution parties at the Watergate hotel.... But oh no, Kristol has no idea what this is all about. Can't even come up with any speculation. Good lord.
My friends, welcome to the beginning of the end. That light at the end of the tunnel? That's a mile-long freight train, and its headed full speed at this miserable excuse for an administration. Grab a beer, pull up a chair, and get ready for some serious fireworks. The end is near. Thank the lord!
UPDATE: One other thought. This whole "let's bury bad news on a Friday" thing is just so dumb. As if a scandal involving the head of the CIa, prostitutes, crooked defense contractors, and US representatives on the take is going to go away. Please.
UPDATE II: HuffPo says more to come. Good lord... I may need a 6-pack for this one!
UPDATE III: Josh has more, including several bits that would seem to confirm HuffPo's suggestion that someone else over in the DoD is about to go. A DoD resignation would all but confirm Josh's speculation that Goss is directly tied to this entire thing. And yes, it's not the prostitutes that matter. It's the bribery. And good lord... if this is tied to Bush's illegal wiretapping business, the whole damn house of cards could tumble down faster than any of us can even imagine.
But really.. seriously.... they used the WATERGATE HOTEL for their parties. Imagine if that damn complex brings down 2 Republican administrations?
Here's an outtake from Josh that will bring you up to speed quickly:
| Now, corrupt contractors saucing up Agency officials and members of Congress to get contracts and free money. Hospitality suites where the saucing takes place. Hookers in the mix. It's going on for more than a decade, various members of the key committees in the mix. Goss, former member of one of those committees, appoints one of the key players in all this mess as the number three guy at CIA? The feds leaning hard on the limo company owner who probably knows all the details and already has a long rap sheet and can't afford another conviction?
There's a lot going on here, a lot we don't know, what's connected and what's coincidence. But this is the backstory. And why this story is likely to turn out to be a very big deal. |
UPDATE IV: Now this is just hilarious. The readers over at NRO are speculating that Goss' resignation is a principled one. They apparently think he was blocked in his efforts to investigate leaks, and as a result resigned. Man... whatever these people are smoking, it must be seriously potent. They're all singing the praises of Goss, and suggesting that Bush was right to stand with him during the announcement. But that presumes that Goss told Bush the full truth, one liar to another. Right...
UPDATE V: Hmmm... A CIA spokesman says it has nothing to do with Foggo, but won't reveal what it's actually about. What the nell is going on here?
UPDATED VI: 7pm and CNN is reporting what has to be the administration's spin - that its all about a policy disagreement between Negroponte and Goss. Fine. Perhaps it is. But if that's true, the way Goss resigned is just bizarre. No explanation given, with the resignation occurring on a Friday afternoon in the midst of wall to wall coverage about a Kennedy crashing his car at 3am while on drugs? Oh yeah... That's a story they want to pre-empt. Color me very VERY skeptical.
One last thing, and then I'm off to finish grading these finals.... If it turns out this isn't related, but that, a few months down the line, a bigger scandal breaks that involves the CIA (as Josh seems to suggest it will), people will make the connections on their own. At that point it won't even matter if it is true.
