This is as bad as his whole "the oceans don't protect us anymore" nonsense. It's as if he didn't live through the Cold War with the rest of us. Because when I was a kid, WWIII meant one thing and only one thing: armageddon. It meant the end of civilization.
The "war on terror" may be many, many things, but the end of civilization it most certainly is not. Good lord...
| US President George W. Bush has said the September 11 revolt of passengers against their hijackers on board Flight 93 had struck the first blow of "World War III".
In an interview with the financial news network CNBC, Mr Bush said he had yet to see the recently released film of the uprising, a dramatic portrayal of events on the United Airlines plane before it crashed in a Pennsylvania field. Mr Bush said: "I believe that. I believe that it was the first counter-attack to World War III. "It was, it was unbelievably heroic of those folks on the airplane to recognize the danger and save lives," he said. |
Yes, they were heroes. No, they did not launch the first counter-attack in WWIII.
But now that I think about it... Although the movie apparently doesn't play it up, it also doesn't hide from the fact that for much of the time covered the president was both unreachable and inaccessible. The passengers on board the plane had to, in his words, launch the "first successful counter-attack in our homeland" because the president was MIA and therefore unable to do so himself.
So apparently its not just the nation's history that he's ignorant about; he doesn't even seem to remember his own history.
