Big news on the voting rights front today.
First off, we get a ruling from a federal court barring implementation of Georgia's overtly discriminatory voter ID law. For those of you who missed this one awhile back, it was a law quite literally designed to both discourage and outright prevent minorities from voting.
Then, on the same day, we get a huge win in the House with a vote to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most cirtical pieces of civil rights legislation in our nation's history. And the vote wasn't even close. Despite pressure from Republican leaders, only 33 members voted against the bill. One chamber down, one to go...
