Following the collapse of the section of one of the I-90 tunnels earlier this week, an inspection has discovered over 240 loose ceiling bolt fixturesthroughout the tunnel system. And despite over $4 billion in fees received for work completed over the last decade, the contractor responsible for that portion of the work was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy as little as two years ago. But of course, this isn't the first time this company has had problems. It seems they've been a disaster from day one.

In other cases, the state officials negotiated a series of global settlements of tens of millions of dollars with Modern Continental to handle the company's demands for additional funds. In 2002, the Globe reported that the company had received approximately $500 million in such contract changes, called change orders. ``It was like open feeding season for change orders," said Levy. |
I've only been in MA for a little of two years, but even so, its been amazing to learn just how badly this thing has been mismanaged.
Have I mentioned recently that Mass has had a Republican Governor since 1991? No? Well now I have.
