A man who once was this administration's fiercest supporters has now come nearly full circle. Check this out.
| In the last few years, I have gone from lionizing this president's courage and fortitude to being dismayed at his incompetence and now to being resigned to mistrusting every word he speaks. I have never hated him. But now I can see, at least, that he is a liar on some of the gravest issues before the country. He doesn't trust us with the truth. Some lies, to be sure, are inevitable - even necessary - in wartime. But when you're lying not to keep the enemy off-balance, but to maximize your own political fortunes at home, you forfeit the respect of people who would otherwise support you - and the important battle you have been tasked to wage. |
Only one thing left I'd ask Sullivan to do. I'd ask him to imagine, just for a moment, how those of us who saw the truth about this administration must feel after more than half a decade of living with what he has only just now learned. Imagine how we must have felt as we watched this sad excuse for a president needlessly drive us into a war that never needed to be waged. Imagine how we must have felt as we watched him sit by as one of the greatest cities in the world drowned on his watch. And imagine how we must have felt as those who backed this administration questioned our patriotism because we dared to speak what we knew was the truth.
UPDATE: Looks like Sullivan isn't the only one to come around today. Check out Josh Marshall's take on Lawrence Kaplan. Even if Kaplan didn't fully think through the implications of his words, as Josh demonstrates they are undoubtedly there.
