Digby's hit on the perfect metaphor for the whole "Democrats are the party of al Qaeda" tactic:

I don't think it's going to work again. It's like the third sequel of a bad movie. The hippie extremist plot is absurd, the hysterical dialog is unintentionally funny and the actors are out of shape and looking old. Worst of all, the star is now box-office poison.

I have to admit, the past few weeks I've been finding their rhetoric more sad than anything else. Where once I would have been either infuriated or resigned, I'm now to the point where I really just feel sorry for them. Its like watching Rocky V, Karate Kid III, and The Phantom Menace all rolled up into one.
