Yglesias is up late tonight:
Israel had every reason to desire the permament dismemberment of Hezbollah, by force if necessary, but no reason to think that there was any actual way to accomplish that objective. But what's true for America in Iraq is true for Israel in Lebanon as well -- just because you have an army on hand and a nice idea of what you'd like to see happen doesn't mean that there's an actual way to use your army to make it happen. Frustration with the status quo is no excuse for launching a destructive war that fails to seriously improve upon it.
