Maher Arar was and is an innocent man. The FBI would not believe him. And so he was "rendered" to Syria, held in a prison cell the size of a closet, and tortured for months on end. He admitted to committing crimes he had never committed, visiting places he had never seen - all lies extracted under the influence of torture and the fear of death. But it was a case of mistaken identity.
In our names, an innocent man was "disappeared." In our names, an innocent man was tortured.
