Forget the tinfoil hats.... A team of scholars at Princeton have completed a thorough study of the very real security flaws in Diebold voting machines, complete with a video demonstrating just how easy it would be to hack one machine and throw an election.
This is not a conspiracy theory. This is now demonstrated fact. The machines can be hacked, and than can be hacked in such a way that the attack leaves no trace.
Democracy is meaningless if the vote count is not accurate. Everything rests on this fundamental act. To use a technology that is this prone to manipulation is utterly insane.
Diebold claims this is not an issue. They claim that the concerns are overblown. But you have to wonder... Diebold also makes most of the ATM's in the nation. Would the banking industry settle for something this insecure? And shouldn't our voting technology be as secure as our banking technology? Democracy and capitalism are the two fundamental pillars of American society. Shouldn't we take protect them with equal care?
