Digby's Take on Obama '08

It seems David Brook's pseudo-endorsement of an Obama '08 candidacy has sent Digby into a tizzy:

Apparently both Joe and David think we are such idiots that we would put the callow young pup Barack Obama up against the manly old lion John McCain for president in 2008. (Jesus, I hate having my intelligence insulted by people like the Kumbaaya twins.)

I have nothing particularly against Barack Obama, he seems like he has a lot of good qualities. But this nonsense about how Democrats should nominate him because he's a nice bipartisan boy who can change the ugly tone in Washington is just a tad presumptuous.

Its fairly well known that I'm in the tank for Obama, but nevertheless, two brief thoughts...

1. Digby is absolutely right. The idea that a "callow young pup" from the Democratic Party could defeat a "manly old lion" from the Republicans during a time when the nation is deeply concerned about national security is absurd. Never gonna happen. Never has happened.

2. Digby is right again: It's simply impossible for a new president to come into power and change the dynamic of DC. And change the rhetoric? Why anyone would think that is possible is simply beyond me. Really. It cannot be done. What are these people thinking?
