Hmm... I forgot about the Murtha-ABSCAM connection. But... its not as if the choice is between him and a progressive, and Hoyer is as much, if not more, of a machine politician than Murtha. Plus, on the single biggest issue of our time - Iraq - Mutha managed to single-handedly change the course of our national debate. He may be wrong in many ways, but he has been right where it matters most. And since I don't suspect I'll ever find myself saying that about Rep. Hoyer...
UPDATE: Shows what I know. If Murtha was actively working to block Democratic efforts at oversight of Iraqi reconstruction - and it looks like he definitely did - I have to seriously wonder about him. What's particularly odd about the report is the idea that he would work to block efforts to add an additional $150 million for veterans' health care and job training. That seems so out of character with everything he supposedly stands for that I can't help but.... become very confused. That's one of the hazards of being a prolific blogger, I suppose!
