The president is now stumbling through the introduction of Gates as the new Secretary of Defense. Again, no transcript, but I cannot believe what I just heard...
Bush just touted the part of Gates' bio where he oversaw the assistance of the Afghan resistance movement in the 1980s. Never mind that Osama bin Laden was part of that effort. Never mind that the Taliban grew directly out of that effort.
I realize that it is important to understand your enemy if you are going to defeat them, but c'mon... should the fact that you helped create them really be one of your talking points? Really?
