Glenn Greenwald nails it.
One of the defining features of the next two years will be a very public and very explicit constitutional showdown. And it is long, LONG overdue.
The theory of executive power embraced by this administration is more radical than virtually any other in our history. Much of what the men who founded this country fought against has been embraced by this administration as necessary for our supposedly new age. The changes they have worked to enact in our system of government and our society have been enormous, and they have been done without the advice or consent of the American people. The Republican congress may have abdicated their constitutional authority, but as of last night, the people have not. The checks can now be put back into balance.
The change we saw yesterday is only the beginning, not the end. Yes, we are all exhausted, but no, this is most definitely not the moment to rest. Electoral victories provide opportunities for change, but they are not change itself. Do not forget that. Do not let up.
