4 years ago, Sen. Trent Lott was considered to be such a racist that he had to be stripped of his Senate leadership post. Today, in his return to power, the issue of his past statements didn't even come up. Because, you know, that's soooooooo four years ago. Can't we all just move on? And besides....
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): I think most people think he paid a pretty heavy price for the mistake that he made. We all believe in redemption, thank God.
Oh my yes! What a price! To have lost his leadership position and been forced to serve - gasp! - as a mere United States Senator. Quelle horreur!
