A "Centrist" Proposal?

Greg Sargent weighs in on Republican Senator John Warner's anti-escalation proposal:

Look, the more "bipartisan" resolutions, the better. And, sure, it's good news that some GOPers are breaking ranks and taking on the White House. The point simply is that this kind of thing reveals very starkly the extent to which the D.C. elites' construct of what represents the political middle has lost all meaning and has come completely unmoored from actual public opinion.

Greg is right: a solid majority of Americans want concrete moves towards withdrawal, and they want them now. Symbolic actions aren't enough any more. My guess is that the first Democratic candidate to figure this out and offer a concrete proposal will gain some serious presidential momentum. Which, yes, for once may give sitting Senators an advantage in the race.
