Get this... The Navy just phased out the F-14 Tomcat. Seen Top Gun? You've seen an F-14.
As a result of the phase out, the Navy has a huge surplus of F-14 spare parts. Those parts, in accordance with DoD policy, will soon go on sale to the highest bidder.
One problem.
There is now only one nation in the world flying F-14's. That nation is Iran.
Although the DoD cannot sell directly to Iran, given that Iran is the only potential end user of the parts, it is inevitable that anyone who buys the parts will resell them to Iran.
Free markets are a beautiful thing, no?
Thankfully, someone has stepped in to intervene in said free market. That someone is Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon).
Damn Democrats... why do they always have to go meddling with those wonderfully free markets?
