Kevin Drum says Gonzo is toast. So too does Carpetbagger. Aravosis thinks this is more about avoiding legal jeopardy than keeping his job.
I particularly like this explanation:

With 110,000 people to monitor, how could he possibly keep track of the activities of his Chief of Staff?
