Make That 30....

McClatchy has found 4 more USA that were once considered for firing. Add them tot he 26 reported on by the Post and you've got an even thirty, nearly a full third of the nation's total. TPM has collected all of the various articles, documents, and reports on the firings, but assuming you've been keeping up with the story, this Washington Post graphic is really pretty much all you need.

As Paul Kiel says, we now know who, what, and when, but we still don't have a reasonable explanation for why. Or rather, we don't have a reasonable explanation for why from the administration. All of the evidence points to politics. Something tells me Monica Goodling's testimony next week is going to be critical.

UPDATE: Here's a perfect example of why this matters, and why so many of us refuse to let this story go. Via CarpetBagger, Blue Jersey looks at the NJ USA who was almost but not quite fired:

In January 2006, Chris Christie was on a list of US Attorneys who were being looked at for replacement.

In September 2006, in the midst of a hard-fought US Senate campaign being dominated by accusations of corruption, Chris Christie authorizes a last minute subpoena that plays into Tom Kean Jr.’s political attacks against Bob Menendez.

In November 2006, after the election is over, Chris Christie is taken off the list and allowed to keep his job.
