"Please everyone, so you please no one" politics

Hillary Clinton has chosen a song by Celine Dion as her campaign theme song. Or rather, Hillary Clinton's supporters have chosen a song by Celine Dion as her campaign theme song. Tim Grieve nails the response:

To be fair, the choice of a Celine Dion number is perfectly consistent with Clinton's "please everyone, so you please no one" politics.

Grieve suggests that Dion's French Canadian roots will outrage the right. No doubt. He also suggests that the choice is so middle-of-the-road that it won't "light a fire under any progressives who might turn up for a Clinton campaign rally." OK. But what about the progressives who can't stand the thought of listening to a song by Celine Dion once, let alone thousands upon thousands of times over the next 18 months? What about us? There's more than one way to light a fire, after all.

I don't know what's worse: that the segment of the American public aligned with Clinton chose this song, or that she didn't have the good sense to overrule them. I mean, really... you just no there is no way Bill would have let this happen to his campaign.
