New WaPo Poll Out

Now here's something I did managed to catch before reading other blogs. There's a new poll from the Post out tonight. You'd think I'd be used to this by now, but the numbers are still shocking. I wonder what precisely it will take for the people in DC to realize just how much the people of this country dislike their president.

Some excerpts:

5. Do you approve or disapprove of the way (ITEM) are doing their job? Approve Disapprove No opinion a. the Republicans in Congress 34 64 2 b. the Democrats in Congress 46 51 2

20. Do you think the Democrats in Congress have done (too much), (too little), or about the right amount to get Bush to change his Iraq war policy?

I know that conservative commentators love to use the overall approval rating for congress (currently at 37%) as a sign that the Dems are in trouble in 2008, but if you actually dig beneath the surface you see very quickly that their version of things makes no sense. As you can see, it is the behavior of Republicans in congress that is dragging the overall numbers down. More importantly, when it comes to the Democrats, most of the public's anger comes from Democrats inability to push change fast enough. Therefore, it seems to me that the more they can do to highlight Republican obstructionism, the better off they will be. Not a novel suggestion, I know, but its good to finally have some hard data to back up what so man of us have long believed.

Remember when everyone claimed the the GOP would own national security for decades? It really wasn't all that long ago.
