Krugman Gets Blogs

Imagine if more of the newspapers used blogs like this:

Since I’ve just published an op-ed about the enduring influence of race on Southern voting, I’m sure to be accused of being a typical Northeastern snob talking about poor white trash who don’t know what’s good for them. So I thought I’d mention an important point about Southern white voting that didn’t fit in 800 words: namely, the poor whites are not the issue.

The one way conversation of the op-ed just became a two-way, ongoing debate. And in this case, it promises to be a very, very good debate. Go read the rest of the post and reward the NYT for its good behavior. Besides, it's short, and it makes an important but often overlooked point about income inequality in America. It isn't just an economic issue anymore.
