My written comprehensive exams are over, but my oral defense is not. That comes tomorrow at 3:30pm. Until then, radio silence is necessary.
But before I go, one question. Last weekend, the Democrats allowed a 12 year old boy aided by the SCHIP program to deliver their weekly radio address. The right has been apoplectic with rage about this, suggesting that because the family has, among other things, a nice house and a small business they are unworthy of government support. They have, since making this revelation, spent the better part of the last week attempting to trash these very private and respectable citizens who decided to speak. Which leads to my question:
If it was a crime against nature to criticize a general during a time of war, why on earth do the very same people think it acceptable to criticize a 12 year old boy who only very recently survived a very traumatic personal experience? Is the idea here that warriors need help defending themselves but children do not? What the hell is wrong with these people?
UPDATE: As always, Ezra and John have beat me to the punch. This is what happens when you don't blog for a week, I suppose.
Ezra is right. This is not about principles. It is about power. There is nothing they will not do to hold onto power. If that means trashing a 12-year old boy who dared speak his mind, so be it.
Shorter version: Fuck these people, their party, and their philosophy on life.
They don't just need to lose in 2008, they need to lose so badly that they think its 1936 all over again. Not 1964, but 1936. Maybe after 3 decades in the political wilderness we can give these assholes another shot at things.
Ezra has much, much more: Go read this, and do it now.
