Our president apparently wonders why he doesn't get more "credit" for our "great" economy. I think this may have something to do with it.
Or maybe its even more simple than that. People's perceptions of the economy are based on their own lives and the lives of those around them. If things don't look good from where you stand, no amount of statistical reporting is going to change your mind. If people think the economy sucks, it does. If they don't, it doesn't. No stats are necessary for that.
