History Hesitated???

There are lots of things you can say about 9/11, and by this point, I figured that Rudy had said them all. Not so, apparently. Via TPM, here's the text of his new ad:

"And when the world wavered, and history hesitated, he never did."

Whatever else you can say about that day, one thing you simply cannot say is that "history hesitated." Most days never make it into the history books. Those that do often do so only tangentially - on this day in history, such and such person did such and such a thing. But every once in awhile, a day is so important, so transformational, that the day itself is what is retained in our collective memory.

Dec 7, 1941.

July 4, 1776.

Sept 11, 2001.

Those are days when history hurtled forward, not days when it momentarily paused. Like so many other things, Rudy's got this one exactly backwards.
