This comment from one of Andrew Sullivan's readers is indicative of something I'm seeing all over the place today. Apparently many voters think it is a wholly rational decision to use their vote to stick it to the media. The line of thinking here is that Hillary has been treated incredibly unfairly, particularly through the whole crying episode, and that has pissed lots of women off, including those who passionately support Obama. And sure enough, so far I'm with them. But the next step - voting against Obama and for Hillary - makes no sense to me whatsoever.
A vote in a presidential primary has one purpose, and one purpose alone: to indicate your preference for a particular presidential candidate. If you want to protest the media's treatment of candidates, believe me, I'm all for it. But for god's sake, if you're going to aim for an end, be sure to use the proper means, OK? Casting a single protest vote isn't likely to have much effect if any on the media, but it will certainly impact the presidential campaign.
This is a presidential campaign, not a Nielsen ratings book.
