Yesterday I pointed out the state of play in the race for delegates on the Democratic side. Today Matt Yglesiaslooks at the Republican race and notices something very, very important: Romney is still in first, with Huckabee second and McCain third. And then, this:
Second place finishes are survivable for Romney as long as different people are beating him in different places and as long as he keeps picking up delegates.
If Romney can win a few of the early winner-take-all states, he could build a fairly sizable lead.
I can't help but wonder - at what point will the media start paying attention to delegate counts? Winning the popular vote is a means to an end, and not an end in itself. Not once last night did I hear anyone make that point. Not once.
