Ezra on Obama:
It's a one-two punch that goes far in explaining why he amped up turnout among the young. His speeches begin by affirming them, then instructing them. It's very smart -- the sort of thing that's unsurprising coming from a community organizer, but that you rarely see in politicians

Kerry was hitting the right notes – Iraq, health care, education, etc. – but had no music. In 2008, Obama has the music.
Ezra on Obama v. Huckabee:
Obama orates. Huckabee talks. Both, at their best, are better at their respective speaking styles than just about anyone I've seen. But listening to them in close succession creates a kind of whiplash. Obama speaks from the mountain top, adopting a preacher's cadence, booming his voice, building to crescendos, pulling back for lulls. Huckabee does exactly the opposite. He chats. He doesn't raise his voice. Doesn't lower it. Doesn't build. You feel like you just had a conversation with the guy, even though you never said a word. It's an amazing effect. Where Obama is inspirational, Huckabee is deeply empathic. Where Obama is cerebral, Huckabee is folksy. Both are impressive. But they couldn't be less alike.
FoxNews on Iowa:
Did populism win and America lose in Iowa?
That last one was just for one. FoxNews entire existence is premised on the existence of a specific set of political issues and coalitions. A realignment threatens their entire reason for being. Scared much?
