Irony

Now how funny is this? Tom DeLay's ridiculous effort to gerrymander Texas is likely to give Obama a huge boost in the upcoming Texas priamcaucus. Short-term, DeLay might be thrilled - there's nothing he hates more than a Clinton! But long-term, if I'm right about Obama's ability to drive a full-scale realignment of our politics, DeLay's efforts will have been instrumental in setting in motion forces that will end his party's grip on DC.

I've always thought that gerrymandering was likely to have far more negative long-term consequences than positive short-term gains, but until now I've never had an obvious anecdote that I could use to demonstrate that. But if things go as I suspect they will, it looks like that will change.
