Bits and Bobs From the Campaign Trail

Some campaign news you may have missed:

+ I'm way behind on my Obama-Wright blogging, and at this point I think it makes sense to hold off on commenting until after Obama's big race/religion speech tomorrow. Until then, some links. First start with Obama himself, initially in writing at HuffPo and then by video via YouTube. Then read Wright's "Audacity of Hope" sermon for yourself.
Marc Ambinder has some background and some perspective. Yglesias and Ezra offer some intersting analysis. Cass Sunstein offers a much more personal take. Publius, Andrew Sullivan, and David Kuo have must-reads on broader questions this controversy raises about the role of religion and politics. If you're really in it for the long haul, read Glenn Greenwald, and then circle back to Ezra again. And last but not least, if you need further proof for why so many people respect Andrew Sullivan's skills as a blogger, read this.

+ While dealing with this, Obama also found time to put the Rezko issue to bed and to give one hell of a sit-down to PBS NewsHour. Maybe this long, nasty primary is a blessing in disguise?

+ Obama netted another 9 delegates out of the next round in the Iowa caucuses. Bit by bit and day by day he gets closer to wrapping this thing up.

+ 2024 is the new magic number of delegates needed to secure the nomination. Yes, it changes day by day. Ambinder explains.

+ Kos is swinging hard at Hillary. Its an under-appreciated fact of the campaign that Hillary has driven the Netroots, a community dedicated to rebuilding the Democratic Party, into the arms of Obama.

+ Florida will not hold a revote, and Michigan is still up in the air. Ambinder thinks the eventual solution will be to seat the Supers and perhaps nothing more. The longer the uncertainty goes on, the more likely I think that outcome will be. Either way, its a victory both for Obama and for those who believe in abiding by the previously agreed to rules of the game.

+ Meanwhile, the residents of Hillaryland are asking donors to threaten the party with financial repercussions if she doesn't get her way with the delegates.

+ Obama has released his earmark requests. Hillary has not. Ditto on tax returns.

+ Obama keeps picking up Supers. Hillary does not.

+ A recent Pew poll shows 10% of Obama Democrats would vote for McCain should Clinton become the party nominee. 25% of Clinton Democrats would vote for McCain should Obama win the nomination.

+ Early mail-in voting began in NC today.

+ How do I know McCain is a liar? He claims both Nine Inch Nails and Abba as his favorite artists.

Wright's sermon is actually titled "The Audacity To Hope", a difference only a copywriter might notice. Again, Obama shades the difference by making it "The Audacity Of Hope", which is a (surprise) more universal theme.
