Some things that happened in the world today while I was flying down the side of a mountain...
+ The Republican Party has some very real, and very serious, legal and financial problems. Fabricating financial audits is bad enough, but using them to obtain bank loans? Combined with a realigning election, this is the kind of thing that could crack a party in half.
+ It looks like Clinton is getting some serious mainstream media push-back on her claims of extensive foreign policy experience. Clinton's response? "I wasn't sitting at the negotiating table, but the role I played was instrumental." Erm...OK. Someone ought to follow-up and ask her precisely what this is supposed to mean.
+ Much more importantly, Clinton was on NPR today lying - and there is absolutely no other word for it - about her own past statements and actions. And I might as well just say it - it was so brazen and so obvious, it reminded me of her husband's finger wagging. Listen for yourself and tell me it wasn't that bad.
+ Number of the day: $175.56 billion. That's the monthly budget deficit for the federal government in February 2007.
+ Quote of the day: Retiring Rep. Tom Davis III (R-VA), my former rep in the US House: "The House Republican brand is so bad right now that if it were a dog food, they'd take it off the shelf."
+ CENTCOM Commander Adm. Fallon apparently wasn't fired because of a dispute over a war with Iran. According to TPM, it was actually all about Iraq. Fallon wanted a quick withdrawal, while Bush + Petraeus did not.
+ Mike Gravel is no longer a Democrat. As of today, he's decided he is more at home as a Green.
And sadly, that's all I've got. The mountain thrashed me today. But with 12-24" of new snow tonight, there's no way I won't be back out there tomorrow at 9am.
