A Bitter Backlash

I cannot believe I'm going to say this, but... the people in Wolf's Situation Room get it exactly right. I didn't expect the media would backlash against Hillary and McCain's response like this, but wow.

And in case you missed it, here's Obama's response:

I'm telling you, this is the pivot point of this election. Obama's message of hope has just been connected to the very real and growing anger and frustration out there in the country. This "controversy" has given Obama a way to break this cycle. And if that doesn't herald a coming realignment, absolutely nothing does.

UPDATE: As I predicted, Hillary thinks she has a winner with this. She's even using it as an opportunity to tout her "Midwest values," and to suggest that she is more tolerant of diverse religions than Obama, who is "elitist" and "out of touch." Because having made over $100 million in the last seven years, she is of course just your average Midwest working girl struggling to get ahead in the world. Or something...

Obama is elitist because he recognizes that people are angry about the fact that they are suffering? He is demeaning small town America when he says what is the truth, that there is anger and bitterness in some of those small towns? If it weren't true, I suppose it might be demeaning, but....

Anyway, Obama isn't going to back down on this, because no matter what Hillary might think, this frame is a big winner for him. Here he is this morning in Muncie:

Notice that when he says the word "bitter" people actually applaud. Why? Because they are bitter, and its striking to hear a politician recognize it and validate it. And this is somehow supposed to hurt Obama? No way. Not. Gonna. Happen.
