I really don't understand why people think ads like this work. What, because I see a bunch of "regular people" on TV, I'm going to mindlessly follow their opinions? The ones they are apparently reading from off camera cue cards? "I was very insulted. It just shows how out of touch he is."
Newsflash: If regular people are offended by someone, they don't need bad actors playing random strangers on TV telling them about it. There aren't any communication or social psych frameworks that I know of that would suggest this sort of amateurish ad would work. This is so amateurish it has Mark Penn written all over it. I thought he was fired? Oh....
